I know a few people that have learned the hard way with tax and I liken it to fire. Fire makes a good servant but a cruel master.
The best thing you can be in relation to tax is totally transparant. If you don't declare something one year it usually bites you in the bum several years later. I've seen it happen hence I declare everything and claim everything I can via my accountant. I suppose, the secret here is a getting a good accountant that knows all the avenues.

    When mystery shopping, you will most often work as an independent contractor. That means that the companies paying you don't withhold income taxes, Social SEcurity taxes or Medicare taxes. You are responsible for making sure your taxes are paid. In general, the fees you receive for mystery shopping are taxable as ordinary income, and are therefore subject to federal income taxes, state and local income taxes, SS taxes and Medicare taxes.
